What is the difference between Wind and Water tight container and Cargo worthy Container?

A Wind and Watertight (WWT) container is structurally sound and fully sealed against wind and water, making it ideal for secure ground storage or domestic use. However, it is not certified for international shipping. A Cargo Worthy (CW) container, on the other hand, meets the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) standards, has been inspected and certified by a qualified marine surveyor, and is approved for export and sea transport.

What is Corten steel and why does it matter?

Corten (COR-TEN A grade) weathering steel is the material used in the construction of ISO shipping containers. When surface rust forms on Corten steel, it creates a non-porous protective oxide layer that prevents water penetrating the steel beneath — the rust is a protective barrier, not a defect. This self-healing property means shipping containers remain structurally sound and weatherproof for decades with minimal maintenance, making them a significantly more durable storage solution than timber or composite alternatives.

Can shipping containers be modified or converted?

Yes. Shipping containers can be modified with a wide range of additions including electrics (LED lighting, sockets, consumer unit), insulation, ply lining, roller shutter doors, personnel access doors, windows, ventilation louvres, and custom RAL repainting.
